About us

Nine tables on Rue Gouraud, since 2018

A waffle and pancake house in Gemmayze. Everything sweet is made in the back, the coffee comes from one roaster in Bourj Hammoud, and nobody will rush your table.

The counter and the window seats at Sweet Spoon on Rue Gouraud

Sweet Spoon opened in 2018 with one waffle iron, four tables and a landlord who thought we would last a season. The street was still half boarded up. We stayed.

Everything sweet is made in the back: the ashta in the morning, the compotes on Sunday, the cookie dough whenever we run out. The coffee comes from a roaster in Bourj Hammoud who has been sending us the same beans for six years and has never once been late.

The room is small — nine tables, a counter, a window that faces the stairs. It fills up on Friday and it is quiet on Tuesday afternoon, which the regulars have worked out and now treat as their office.

How we work

Three things we do not bend on

  • You can read every ingredient

Every plate on the menu lists what is in it. If you need something left out, we leave it out.

  • Open when you actually want dessert

Until eleven on a weeknight, midnight on Friday and Saturday. Nobody will rush your table.

  • Made here, not delivered here

The creams, the compotes, the sponges and the cookie dough are made in this kitchen, most of them the same morning.

The room

A look at what comes out of the kitchen

  • A waffle under chocolate sauce and strawberries
  • A stack of pancakes with syrup and blueberries
  • An iced pistachio latte on the counter
  • Three scoops of ice cream with crushed pistachio

What people say

  • "I asked which waffle had no nuts in it and the girl behind the counter knew the answer without checking. That is rarer than it should be."

    Nour Abou Jaoude

    Gemmayze

  • "We ordered the Tower for four people and finished it, which I am not proud of. Best pistachio anything in Beirut."

    Karim Chidiac

    Mar Mikhael

  • "Open late, quiet enough to talk, and the coffee is actually good rather than just sweet. I end up here most Thursdays."

Questions

Things people ask us

I have a nut allergy. Can I eat here?

Use the 'no nuts' filter on the menu to see what is safe on paper. But please also tell us at the counter: we handle pistachio and hazelnut all day in a small kitchen, so we would rather say honestly how careful we can be with your order.

Is there anything vegan?

Seven things. Filter the menu by vegan and you will find a waffle, pancakes, a chocolate mousse and most of the cold drinks. The oat milk costs nothing extra.

Do I need to book?

Not on a weekday. Friday and Saturday after 8pm the room fills, so message us on WhatsApp and we will hold a table for half an hour.

Do you deliver?

Across Gemmayze, Mar Mikhael, Achrafieh and Downtown. Send the order on WhatsApp with your address. Waffles travel better than you would think; ice cream does not.

Can we come with children?

Please do. There are high chairs, the Silver Dollars are made for small appetites, and nobody here minds noise.

That is us. Now the food.

Every item with its ingredients written underneath, searchable, and filterable for vegan, gluten-free and no nuts.
